On 15 July 2026, Q-Sourcing Servtec Rwanda, together with Right Seat and Transforming Engagements (TES) Ltd, hosted the Gen Z at Work event. The session brought together people from different generations for an open conversation about how they experience the workplace, what they expect from one another and what can be done to build stronger working relationships.

Beyond the Generation Gap

Workplace conversations about Gen Z often focus on differences. Different communication styles. Different expectations. Different attitudes towards leadership, career growth, technology and work-life balance. However, one of the strongest lessons from the event was that many supposed generational differences are not as wide as they appear. In many cases, the real challenge is communication. People may want similar things, that is, respect, meaningful work, fair opportunities, growth and a sense of belonging but express those needs differently. Without honest conversation, these differences can easily become misunderstandings.

Creating Space for Honest Dialogue

The event gave participants an opportunity to move beyond assumptions and hear directly from one another. Through shared experiences and open discussion, participants explored how different generations approach work, feedback, leadership and collaboration. The conversation showed that understanding does not require every generation to think or work in exactly the same way. It requires curiosity, respect and a willingness to listen.

When employees feel heard, they are more likely to contribute confidently. When leaders understand the people they manage, they are better equipped to build engaged and productive teams.

Building a Workplace Where Everyone Can Thrive

The future of work will be shaped by several generations working side by side. Organisations therefore need to create environments where different perspectives are not treated as a problem, but as a strength. This means encouraging open communication, adapting leadership approaches, creating opportunities for mutual learning and avoiding stereotypes about age or experience. It also means recognising that every generation has something valuable to offer.

Younger employees bring fresh perspectives, digital confidence and new expectations of the workplace. More experienced professionals bring institutional knowledge, perspective and lessons developed over time. The strongest workplaces make room for both.

Continuing the Conversation

The Gen Z at Work event was an important reminder that better working relationships begin with listening. By creating space for honest conversations, organisations can reduce misunderstandings, strengthen collaboration and build workplaces where every generation feels valued. Q-Sourcing Servtec Rwanda extends its appreciation to Right Seat, Transforming Engagements (TES) Ltd and everyone who participated and contributed to the discussion.

The future of work belongs to all of us—and building it starts with understanding one another.
