You have the degrees, the years of experience, and the right skills, yet your inbox is empty. It is frustrating to be qualified for a role and still get a generic rejection email, or worse, no response at all. Usually, the problem isn’t your talent; it’s how you are presenting it.

The first big mistake is treating your CV like a personal diary.

Recruiters do not care about every minor task you performed ten years ago. They want to see how you solve their current problems. When you clutter your CV with irrelevant details, you hide the very things that make you a great hire.

The second, most common error is ignoring the “robot” gatekeepers.

Most large companies today, use software to scan your application before a human ever sees it. So, if you use a fancy design with multiple columns or strange graphics, the software cannot read it, and your application is binned instantly. Keeping your layout simple is actually the most professional thing you can do.

Third, you describe your “responsibilities” instead of your “results.”

Saying you were “responsible for customer service” tells a recruiter nothing. Saying you “reduced customer complaints by 40%” tells them you are a high-performer. Without numbers or specific wins, you look like every other applicant.

Fourth, and on the digital side, a “ghost” LinkedIn profile is a major red flag.

Believe it or not, hiring managers search your LinkedIn profile. If a recruiter finds your name but your profile has no photo, no summary, and no recent activity, they will assume you aren’t serious about your career. Similarly, if your LinkedIn doesn’t match your CV, it instantly creates a lack of trust.

Finally, avoid the trap of “spraying and praying.”

Sending the exact same CV to fifty different jobs rarely works. Each job has specific keywords in the description. If you don’t take five minutes to tweak your language to match that specific role, you are essentially invisible to the search filters.
