On behalf of our client SPIRO, we are looking for a competent, skilled, experienced Head Electrical Lead to work at head office in Kampala.

Job purpose:

The Electrical Lead is responsible for coordinating grid connections, supervising electrical works, and ensuring reliable, compliant, and uninterrupted power supply for Spiro Uganda’s battery swap stations. The role oversees engagement with UEDCL and its contractors, electricity bill management, and the maintenance and repair of all electrical installations across swap station sites.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Power Grid Connection & Utility Coordination

  • Coordinate the connection of swap stations to the national power grid through UEDCL.
  • Manage the entire UEDCL connection process, including application submission, site inspections, quotation reviews, approvals, and final connection.
  • Issue Purchase Orders (POs) to UEDCL-approved or outsourced contractors for grid connection works.
  • Act as the primary liaison between Spiro Uganda and UEDCL on all electrical connection matters.

Contractor Supervision & Quality Assurance

  • Coordinate, supervise, and monitor UEDCL contractors and other electrical service providers during installation and connection works.
  • Ensure all electrical works comply with national standards, utility requirements, and Spiro Uganda technical specifications.
  • Verify completion of works and certify readiness of sites prior to commissioning and activation.

Electrical Operations & Maintenance

  • Oversee routine maintenance of all electrical installations at swap stations, including panels, wiring, metering systems, and charging infrastructure.
  • Coordinate timely repair of electrical faults to minimize station downtime.
  • Conduct regular inspections to ensure safety, reliability, and compliance of electrical systems.

Power Billing & Reconciliation

  • Coordinate reconciliation of electricity bills for all swap stations.
  • Ensure timely processing and payment of monthly electricity bills to avoid disconnections or penalties.
  • Track power consumption trends and flag anomalies or losses for corrective action.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate records of grid connections, electrical installations, maintenance activities, and power bills.
  • Prepare periodic reports on connection status, operational performance, outages, and maintenance activities.
  • Support audits and inspections related to electrical installations and power usage.

Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure all electrical works adhere to occupational health and safety standards.
  • Promote safe electrical practices at swap stations and during contractor operations.
  • Identify electrical risks and implement mitigation measures.

REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field.
  • Master’s degree is an added advantage
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in electrical engineering, with at least 5 years in a supervisory or managerial role
  • Proven track record in Power grid connection projects, Electrical installation supervision Operations & maintenance of electrical systems, Energy billing and reconciliation
  • Strong background in contractor management and quality assurance.
  • Experience working in the energy sector, utilities, or large-scale infrastructure projects.
  • Strong background in contractor management and quality assurance.

KEY COMPETENCIES

  • Deep knowledge of Uganda’s electrical codes and utility regulations.
  • Ability to coordinate multi-site operations and travel frequently.
  • Strong problem-solving skills for minimizing downtime and handling faults quickly.
  • Excellent documentation and reporting ability for audits and compliance.
  • Able to guide teams, enforce safety standards, and manage
  • Willingness to travel frequently to swap station sites countrywide.
