On behalf of our client, Oxford University Press East Africa (OUPEA), a leading player in the Publishing and Educational Materials Sector, we are looking for a competent, skilled, and experienced Contract Sales Representatives to work in Uganda – Central, Eastern, westerner region.

Role Overview

The Contract Sales Representative will drive the adoption, recommendation, and availability of Oxford books and learning materials in secondary schools offering Senior 1 to Senior 4 across Uganda.

The role will focus on identifying high-potential schools, presenting relevant Oxford titles to teachers and school decision-makers, securing book adoptions, and providing timely market intelligence. The representative will build strong, professional relationships with teachers, heads of department, and school administrators within the assigned territory.

The role requires consistent field activity, disciplined follow-up, accurate reporting, ethical selling, and professional representation of OUPEA at all school and trade engagements.

Key Responsibilities

• Identify and secure Oxford book adoptions in priority secondary schools by mapping and profile secondary schools within the assigned territory, with particular focus on Senior 1 to Senior 4.
• Build credible, respectful, relationships with teachers, heads of department, school leaders, librarians, bursars, and school proprietors
• Conduct school visits, product presentations, and follow-ups.
• Develop and maintain a pipeline of adoption and sales opportunities.
• Maintain an up-to-date record of school visits, contacts, opportunities, samples issued, presentations conducted, adoptions secured, expected quantities, and follow-up actions.
• Collect and report relevant information on competitor titles, pricing, discounts, promotions, sampling activities, availability, and school penetration
• Achieve agreed school coverage, adoption, and sales targets.
• Uphold the OUPEA Code of Conduct and all ethical selling standards when dealing with schools, teachers, education officials, booksellers, distributors, and other stakeholders.
• Represent OUPEA professionally at school visits, bookshop engagements, exhibitions, conferences, workshops, and other trade or education events

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

• Diploma or bachelor’s degree in education, Business, Sales, Marketing, or a related field.
• Previous experience in field sales, educational publishing, school engagement, bookselling, fast-moving consumer goods, or a related customer-facing role.
• Demonstrated ability to build relationships and influence customer decisions.
• Good understanding of secondary schools and education-sector stakeholders in Uganda.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to prepare accurate activity reports, adoption records, and sales forecasts.
• Ability to work independently, organise field activities, and manage a defined territory.
• Basic competence in Microsoft Office applications and digital reporting tools.
• Willingness and ability to travel extensively within the assigned territory.

Desirable

• Teaching experience or previous work with secondary schools.
• Experience selling textbooks, educational resources, or other learning solutions.
• Existing professional relationships with secondary schools, teachers, booksellers, or education networks.
• Knowledge of the Senior 1 to Senior 4 curriculum and textbook-selection processes in Uganda.
• Experience using a customer relationship management system.
• Knowledge of local languages commonly used within the assigned territory.
